What I've learned from 10+ years in the industry.

Fear limits us.
How often do we limit ourselves, take the safe route, talk ourselves out of making changes, or are afraid to ask just one more question that may open up a whole new opportunity? I know I have been guilty of this. After all, you are reading my very first blog post after several years of knowing that I should be sharing my experience with a broader audience! I also see this with many of the fundraising clients I work with. It can be hard to envision a different fundraising technique, venue, major donor, or timeline than in prior years.
Experience is the best teacher, but it doesn’t have to be your experience!
With experience at hundreds of events with scores of clients I have seen lots of things work, some things fail, been surprised a few times, and I have learned something at nearly every event. I’ll never forget the first time I conducted a Fund-a-Need or the Last Hero. The anticipation of trying something brand new in front of a live audience for the first time. The exhilaration when it was wildly successful and then all the clients that ran through my mind where I could add an entirely new revenue stream to their event. Now experience has taught me to enhance those techniques with mission moments, matching donations, and challenge grants.
I have to ask you…
When is the last time you tried something new at your event? Are you open to making the changes needed to help your event and ultimately your organization grow beyond your stretch goals? Could your donors be more engaged during your live event? Can you ask for a larger initial donation in your Fund-a-Need? Have you tried the Last Hero? Where do you use matching donations, if at all? Do you have a dynamic fundraiser working the room during your most important evening of fundraising?
Now it is your turn to ask me….
Don’t be afraid to call and ask me, engage with me on social media, or send me an email. You never know when the next question may take your fundraising to a whole new level.
